The Fundació Antoni Tàpies, based in the old Montaner y Simón publishing house, work of the modernist architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, opened its doors in 1990.
The Foundation has one of the most complete collections of works by this artist, formed mainly from the donations of Antoni and Teresa Tàpies and also a complete library specialized in modern and contemporary art. It houses the most extensive archive of the work of Tàpies, as well as collections on Asian and pre-Columbian arts and culture, as well as the African and oceanic arts that have had such importance in the evolution of twentieth-century art. A bibliographic collection in constant growth. With a plural and interdisciplinary approach, the Foundation organizes temporary exhibitions, symposia, conferences and film cycles.
